With contributions from California State Law Enforcement Offices of Emergency Services and various Sheriff's departments, annual events are held to provide Search and Rescue (SAR) professionals with information on how to effectively and efficiently respond to wilderness SAR problems, urban environmnt SAR problems, and disasters.
SAREX 2008 was held in Yosemite National Park. An estimated 500 law enforcement and search and rescue personnel attended. Base camp was at 7200 feet. Left, California Karelian's Blacky, Laska and Star (just six months old) trained in helicopter safety, high lining, and searching for a victim. The helicopter at the event was a Black Hawk specially re-fitted for Search and Rescue transport.
At SAREX 2006, California Karelian's Kandy, at seven months old, participated in helicopter safety and tracking courses along with 275 other law enforcement and SAR personnel. That event was sponsored by Butte County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team (BCASR).
