About Our Kennel

Here at California Karelians we are dedicated to the introduction, preservation, and improvement of the Karelian Bear Dog (KBD) as a unique breed. We are accomplishing our goals by selective breeding and discerning placement of our KBDs. We also participate in Karelian rescues.

We strive to accurately understand our customers' expectations, assess the available time they have to train, and evaluate the adequacy of their living conditions before placing our California Karelians in new homes. We understand that ensuring the safety and health of your Karelian through adequate care and training is crucial to enjoyment of your KBD for years to come.

Our Training Values

We strive to be responsive to the needs of customers and encourage our customers to take advantage of our training support. It has been our experience that not all dog handlers share our training values, and we share them with you in the hopes that they will help you improve your communication with your Karelian. [more]

Much information exists on how to better understand and communicate with your dog. We share a few of the precepts that over the years we have shared with others who are having training difficulties. [more]

At California Karelians we believe that our method of socialization brings out the natural drive of our dogs and reinforces appropriate social skills. Right, because we also breed Maine Coon cats, we socialize our Karelian Bear Dogs to respect other family pets. [more]
