Search & Rescue Annual Training Events

With contributions from California State Law Enforcement Offices of Emergency Services and various Sheriff's departments, annual events are held to provide Search and Rescue (SAR) professionals with information on how to effectively and efficiently respond to wilderness SAR problems, urban environmnt SAR problems, and disasters.

Along with 275 other law enforcement and SAR personnel that attended SAREX 2006 sponsored by Butte County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team (BCASR), California Karelian's Kandy, at seven months old, participated in helicopter safety and tracking courses.

Kandy exhibited the fearlessness, determination and social skills required of a search and rescue dog. Since SAR work involves participation with teams of people and dogs, it is important that a SAR dog not exhibit dog agression in a work setting.

SAREX 2007 was held in Yosemite National Park. An estimated 500 law enforcement and search and rescue personnel attended. Base camp was at 7200 feet.

California Karelian's Blacky, Laska and Star (six months old) trained in helicopter safety, highlining, and tracking. The helicopter at the event was a Black Hawk specially re-fitted for Search and Rescue transport.
