Run away training exercises

Run away training exercises, an early step in K9 search and rescue training, provide a fun way for you to interact with your Karelian, even if your intention is not to pursue formal search and rescue training.

The California Karelian puppies in this slide show, who are training in the back yard (running up the gravel steps), are just five months old. The final exercise, being performed by California Karelians' Star at nine months of age, took place in a huge field where a victim was hiding behind a large tree. Once Bill released her, it was Star's job to locate the victim, return back to Bill, and lead him to that same victim... after which she was rewarded generously with lots of praise, of course.
